2019 Taos 4* Freeride World Qualifier

September 17th, 2020

Taos Ski Valley hosted a 2, Star and 4 Star IFSA Freeride World Qualifying event February 27 – March 1st, including a 2-day Master Division. For 15 years running, this premiere big-mountain event is New Mexico’s largest and most prestigious ski and snowboard competition.

The event was held on West Basin 1 and 2, which features a full menu of technical chutes, steep trees, and big airs. High scoring lines through the exposed pepper and narrow chute on Turbinator, the controlled turns and box rocks through Zdarsky, with a couple of creative crowd pleasers through Waterfowl, Heavy Timber and Bamboo Spine. Conditions on the venue held up well through three days of competitions, with the athletes taking full advantage and putting on one hell of a show.

Big ups to the event organizers (especially Tom Winter, Kaela Gillum, and Brian Cole), the judges, and all of the athletes for getting through a technical venue and hosting a productive, open dialog with athletes about the event.
