SNOWLEDGE IS POWDER

Here at Snowledge, we know that our motto “Snowledge is Powder” applies to more than just knowing where your friends are and how many vertical feet you’ve skied. Nowadays, it’s more important than ever to be informed, stay connected with your community, and remain committed to the causes you believe in.

In addition to the many partnerships Snowledge is building with mountain resorts, athletes, and brands, Snowledge is also building partnerships with causes we believe in. That’s why Snowledge is collaborating with ALS Association of Oregon and SW Washington to support their 6th annual Ski to Defeat ALS event April 8th at Mt. Hood Meadows.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, better known as ALS, is a devastating disease that currently affects as many as 30,000 Americans and their families, with 5,600 newly diagnosed cases each year. Through this partnership, Snowledge will be volunteering time and helping to raise funds that will facilitate further research, promote early detection, and provide support for the people and families who are struggling with ALS.

SKI TO DEFEAT ALS EVENT

This annual event is family-friendly, and participants can either ski, snowboard, or snowshoe. The event generally sells out, and participants help to reach a fundraising minimum by day of the event. Everyone is invited to do their part to help us challenge ALS!

WHY THIS CAUSE HITS CLOSE TO HOME

“A few years ago, one of my closest friends died from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis,” shared Al Lee, Co-Founder and Director of Operations at Snowledge. “After seeing firsthand how the local ALS chapter supported him, his family, and hundreds of others to help them manage this awful disease, I decided that I needed to get involved. It was incredibly rewarding to have Snowledge partner with the ALS Association to help make their annual “Ski to Defeat ALS” fundraiser a big success.”

Al joined the board of the ALS Association of Oregon and SW Washington in 2005, shortly after his friend Stan passed away from ALS. Al served in various roles, including board president and liaison to the national ALS organization until 2015. Al remains an ardent supporter and stays actively involved with the organization through events like Ski to Defeat ALS.

Since its inception in 2002, the local chapter of The ALS Association has been the central source for services and education for people with ALS, their families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals in all of Oregon and the six counties of SW Washington.
